Q: I want to put a window behind a cooktop. Are their any issues with clearances? I realize cleaning will be an issue.

A: The clearance issues deal with combustible surfaces not the window. We don’t recommend placing a cooktop in front of a window for several reasons. Cleaning will be difficult and unsafe, particularly if the fuel is gas. Reaching across the cooking surface to clean or open the window while cooking could ignite your clothing. A breeze through an open window could extinguish the flame of a gas burner. Unless you have a system that will automatically reignite your burner, gas will enter the home which could lead to an explosion. Finally, window treatments are often placed on windows for privacy. These coverings could be ignited by the cooktop. We recommend that you find another place for the cooking surface unless the issues above are not relevant to your situation.
